Originally from Newport News, Virginia, Jamieson Carr is currently studying percussion at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA. Past teachers include C. William Rice, Dr. Michael Overman, Marlon Foster, and Howard Curtis. At JMU, he has performed with the Percussion Ensemble, Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Symphony Orchestra, Steel Band, Brass Band, Jazz Ensemble, Marching Royal Dukes and numerous other chamber ensembles. Certain accolades include having been a soloist in David Gillingham’s /Concertino for Four Percussion and Wind Ensemble/ at the JMU Wind Symphony’s Kennedy Center performance in April of 2007. Jamieson has placed first at the North American Brass Band Association Adult Percussion Solo contest as well as having toured and performed throughout England and Wales for 2 weeks with the JMU Brass Band. In 2008, Jamieson also won the PAS Individual Multi-Tenor Competition.
As an active composer and teacher, Jamieson has written for groups such as the JMU Percussion Ensemble, JMU Drumline, and numerous other high school drumlines.
