For
more than three decades, celebrated drummer and educator
Curt Moore has amassed an admirable list of performing,
recording and teaching achievements. With over 100 recordings
to his credit, including a Grammy-nominated recording with
Jackie and Roy, Curt has shown an affinity for playing
in a surprisingly wide variety of musical styles. Curt’s
impressive resume lists collaborations with many leading
jazz, pop and world music artists, including Francisco
Aguabella, the Count Basie Orchestra, Chuck Berry, Ray
Brown, John Clayton, Richard Davis, Pete Escovedo, Vic
Firth, Jimmy Haslip, Jimmy Heath, Jackie and Roy, Andy
Narell, Rufus Reid, and Steve Turre.
Curt's
passion for Latin music has led to numerous projects
including Soul Sauce, his own critically acclaimed 5-piece
Latin-Jazz group which draws on the rich body of Afro-Cuban
and Brazilian influenced jazz. As an educator, Curt is
in demand both in the classroom and as a private instructor.
Having served on the teaching staff of the six-time world
champion Santa Clara Vanguard Drum & Bugle Corps, Moore
is currently on the faculty at The Jazzschool in Berkeley,
California. Curt participates in clinic settings as a performer
and teacher, and as a festival adjudicator throughout the
United States.
Early
in career, Curt studied with Latin Jazz drumming luminary
Johnny Rae, best known for his work with Cal Tjader in
the 1960s. He holds
a B.A. from San Jose State University where he studied
classical percussion with the esteemed San Francisco Symphony
percussionist, composer and author Anthony Cirone. Moore
graduated with an emphasis in jazz performance and has
endorsement relationships with Vic Firth Drumsticks and
Evans Drumheads.
