Using Virtual Drumline 2.5 in Finale 2010 gives you awesome control over your music notation while providing
ultra-realistic VDL percussion playback. To get the best mileage from
these advanced music creation tools, it's important to use staves that contain
percussion maps corresponding to the layout of Virtual Drumline's advanced
key-mapping. The files included in this package will give you everything
you need to get up and running with VDL and Finale 2010. (Note: Finale 2010a required).
Please note: This item is downloadable
only and is being sold as a single-user
license. What this means is that you are welcome to use the included
files on any of your projects (without needing to repurchase the template),
but they are not allowed to be shared with other users who haven't also purchased
the template. For a complete listing of the licensing terms, please visit our

decision to charge for this template, please read this letter

What's New in Finale 2010 Template
Included in the redesigned VDL Templates for Finale 2010:
- Completely redesigned percussion layouts- Finale 2010 has redesigned the way in which percussion mapping works. As a result, you’ll experience tighter integration through named notes which have been customized for the full version of VDL. Every unpitched percussion instrument in VDL has a percussion layout included within the template.
- Templates for Finale 2010 (version 1 & 2) - These
are blank Finale files which contain a basic percussion score layout, with a
complete library of percussion layouts and MIDI maps that correspond precisely to the instruments in Virtual
Drumline (accessible, customizeable, and assignable within each staff's attributes
using the Staff Tool.).
- Indoor & Outdoor Templates - These are
just two different flavors of the same set of staves assigned in each default
score. The indoor template places battery staves at the top of the score.
The outdoor template places battery staves at the bottom of the score.
- VDL MIDI Map XML Files - Don't let the name scare you. Once you've put them in their proper place, you can forget about them. These files contain a full suite of MIDI maps specific to Virtual Drumline with custom designed note names for every unpitched percussion sound within every instrument in VDL. Installing these are the key to having the new percussion layouts work smoothly.
- Built-in Text Expressions are now available for a variety of
VDL Expression Categories. What this means is that you can
now easily manipulate some of VDL's advanced playback functions which use
keyswitching or mod-wheel controls (i.e., regular mallets to puffies, snares
at edge, etc.) by simply assigning one of the predesigned text expressions
in the template.
- Finale 2010 Template READ ME - More documented than before, this is a quick
"getting started" guide on the basic functions of the files included
in this package. It also includes several keys to text expressions and how they affect playback, as well as notation keys which illustrate how some of the most primary instruments in VDL will display when entered into their corresponding Percussion Layouts in the Finale 2010 template.
- VDL 2.5 Percussion Layout and Text Expression libaries for Finale 2010 - By
importing these files into scores that weren't created using the VDL template,
you'll have access to the full suite of percussion layouts and text expression categories available within
the default template files. This can be very helpful if collaborating with
other Finale users who aren't using VDL.
System Requirements
Requires Finale 2010a (or higher) notation software, and Virtual Drumline 2.5.x. Supported on Macintosh or Windows PCs computers.
