Description

When it comes to groovy drumline jams, Murray Gusseck and Jim Casella know a thing or two. Now, you don’t have to play for a world-class drum corps to play their tasty beats. Forward March! is a collection of 6 easy-to-medium drumline cadences designed to make younger groups sound like pros and give seasoned groups unique grooves that can be thrown together in no time!

Each cadence includes a range of tempos, infinitely loopable grooves, and optional auxiliary percussion parts. Also included are suggested short vamps that allow you to use groove highlights when you need something quick and energetic in the stands for a timeout or at a pep rally.

The following cadences are included in Forward March! - Volume 1:

Bucketafish (8 bars)
Chow Line (12 bars)
Twenty-Three Skidoo (12 bars)
Zig-Zag Snappy Pants (12 bars)
Vanilla Sheik (16 bars)
Hold that Liger (24 bars)

Cadences are scored for standard marching percussion battery: Snares, tenors (quad and quint parts), basses (2, 3, 4, or 5-drum options), cymbals, and optional auxiliary percussion.

When you’re strapped for time and need to get the energy pumping and the band down the street, march forward with Forward March!

Reviews

"When I first saw the "Forward March" cadence collections on the Tapspace website, I knew they would be perfect for a percussion camp I was teaching at in Austin, TX. I was not disappointed. The students loved playing them, and they were easy to teach. Another cool thing about these is that you can embellish them to fit the ability level of your battery section. Fun, intelligently written, and easy to work with. Excellent combination, if you ask me!

-----------------

Each of these volumes offers six different tunes for the marching percussion ensemble. The volumes are accompanied by a CD, which contains recordings of each piece, as well as the separate parts. The parts include options for quad or quint toms, as well as two through five basses. The auxiliary and cymbal parts are optional for each tune.

Each of the pieces range from eight to 24 measures and offer flexibility with repeats and form to make them as long or as short as you wish. The tunes have a range of styles, meters, and tempos offering a variety of pieces for the marching percussion ensemble. The pieces would work very well for younger drumlines in a parade, concert, or game-day environment. The flexible nature of the form of these pieces would also enable them to work well as quick stand grooves for even more advanced groups.

Jim Casella and Murray Gusseck have provided an excellent resource for the younger marching percussion ensemble. The tunes are not only fun, they offer excellent learning opportunities for younger players.
