Matt Moore

Matt Moore is a percussion educator, composer, arranger, adjudicator, and performer in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. He is currently the Director of Percussion at Lake Highlands High School in Dallas, TX where he leads the award-winning LH Drumline and Percussion Ensemble and teaches the jazz band.

Mr. Moore's experience in music is highly diverse, beginning with piano, percussion, and vocal studies from a young age, continuing through horn in middle and high school band before focusing on percussion in college and beyond. As a performer, Moore has in recent years appeared with the Las Colinas Symphony Orchestra, Lone Star Wind Orchestra and Percussion Ensemble, Texas Christian University Percussion Orchestra, received second place in the 2012 Young Texas Artists Music Competition - Woodwinds, Harp, Percussion, Brass, Guitar division, and has performed as a solo marimba artist in Steinway Hall's "Second Sunday" concert series. From 2008-2010, Moore was a member of the battery staff for the Blue Knights Drum and Bugle Corps from Denver, Colorado, helping the percussion section and corps place in the elite "top 12" of the Drum Corps International Championships. In recent years, Moore has been a percussion educator at Griffin Middle School, Wakeland High School, Flower Mound High School, Texas Christian University, and Colleyville Heritage High School, serving as marching band and percussion ensemble instructor, percussion arranger and more. Prior to living in Texas, Moore instructed and arranged for various high school, collegiate, and independent programs in Kentucky, including the Campbellsville University Marching Band, Speed Indoor Percussion, and Adair County High School. As a marching performer, he was a member of front ensembles and drumlines of numerous Drum Corps and Winter Guard International programs, including Carolina Crown, Southwind, and 2008 World Champion Rhythm X Indoor Percussion.

Moore is an active composer with a popular catalog of works for solo percussion and percussion ensemble. His music has been commissioned, performed, and recorded around the country. The award-winning Texas Christian University Percussion Orchestra premiered his work for large percussion ensemble Critical Mass spring of 2012, and recorded the piece for a soon to be released CD. His piece for vibraphone and recorded accompaniment, Music for Vibraphone and Electronica, is winner of the 2011 Jonathan Durington Award for Music Composition. Jabberwocky, for solo soprano and piano accompaniment, was chosen to be performed at the 2011 Fort Worth Contemporary Music Fund Call for Scores concert. In 2008, Moore received first place in the Kentucky Music Educators Association's Collegiate Composition category with his work for solo marimba, Prelude. He went on to perform the winning piece at the KMEA 2008 convention at Whitney Hall in the Kentucky Center for the Arts.

Moore holds a Master's degree with honors from Texas Christian University, TX and a Bachelor's degree with honors from Campbellsville University, KY, and is an educational artist for Innovative Percussion sticks and mallets. Moore lives with his wife Aline and dogs in Garland, Texas.
