Description

Colossus features a timpani soloist with accompaniment from seven percussionists, most of whom play multipercussion setups. The piece features strong themes throughout, with all voices painting a very well-orchestrated picture. The timpanist is featured both in a melodic role as well as in a more primal, rhythmic role. Precise markings help spell out every nuance, and the form is well-paced. The concerto features a dramatic cadenza just before the main material recapitulates into an explosive conclusion. Eric Rodis won 3rd prize in the Percussive Arts Society composition contest in 2002 with Colossus which makes a great showpiece to feature the timpanist in an accessible way.

This piece comes as a professionally printed and bound score and includes individual parts in PDF format for printing or for tablet viewing.
