Steven Wulff

Steven Wulff is an active percussion educator, performer, arranger and composer located in mid-Michigan. He is a founding member of the Tala Rasa Percussion Group, which is actively involved in commissioning and premiering new percussion works. Tala Rasa recently won the prestigious Presser Grant from Peabody Conservatory in an effort to collaborate with more composers to create and share new works.

Steven has performed with the Lansing Symphony Orchestra, the Battle Creek Symphony Orchestra, the Holland Symphony Orchestra, the Jackson Symphony Orchestra, and the Michigan State University Symphony Orchestra. He also played snare drum in the Michigan State Drumline, the Detroit Pistons Drumline, and Northcoast Academy. He played percussion for Vanessa Williams, Johnny Mathis, and the Celtic Women, in addition to several off-Broadway shows.

Steven has been a featured soloist with the Michigan State University Percussion Ensemble and Musique 21, the new music ensemble at MSU. He has premiered new works for percussion from coast to coast. Steven has also been a percussionist with several world-fusion groups including MSU’s Salsa Verde as well as Orquestra Ritmo.

While finishing his DMA at Michigan State University, Steven has been an assistant director and arranger with the MSU Drumline. He has also been a member of the percussion faculty for the Performing Arts Camp at Michigan State University. In addition to MSU, he teaches and arranges for several drumlines around Michigan. His arrangements for drumline have been played around the country.

During his Master’s Degree at the University of South Carolina, Steven was a member of the USC Percussion Ensemble and the instructor and arranger for the USC Drumline. He was also the percussion faculty for the University of South Carolina Band Clinic during the summer.

Steven is also an active percussion teacher. He has previously been percussion faculty for Albion College and currently is percussion instructor for several schools in mid-Michigan, including the award-winning DeWitt HS Drumline. As a member of Tala Rasa, Steven has given clinics at schools around the country including Interlochen, Southern Utah State University, Chapman University, and California Institute of the Arts. He has also presented solo clinics around Michigan.
