Alex Smith

Alex Smith is the professor of percussion at University of Central Missouri. He is a DMA student candidate in Percussion Performance at Michigan State University where he also received his MA in Ethnomusicology and MM in Percussion Performance (2015). Alex received his BM in Percussion Performance from East Carolina University studying with Dr. Jon Wacker and Mr. Chris Nappi (2010). At MSU, Alex studies percussion with Professor Gwen Dease and Dr. Jon Weber. In the area of ethnomusicology, Alex is a student of Dr. Michael Largey with research interests involving consumption culture and sustainability of percussion instruments in the academic percussion community. His research has brought him to Brazil and Ghana.
