Chris Munson

Surrounded by music at an early age, Chris Munson grew up listening to, learning from, and performing with some of South Florida‰'s most notable musicians. He began performing with regional jazz artists at the age of 14 and was working in the studio scene before graduating from high school. His musical development continued when he relocated to Nashville in the 1990s.

While there, he worked steadily in the studio and live scene. He appeared on over 1,000 recordings and numerous award-winning albums (including two that were Grammy nominated), toured nationally with a variety of artists, was heard on over 500 radio stations nationwide, and appeared on nationally broadcast television shows and internationally broadcast radio shows.

He has recorded or performed with many notable artists including Don Aliquo, David Amram, Gail Bliss, Fred Bogert, David Carradine, Bobby Carradine, Vassar Clements, Jeff Coffin, Doug Dillard, Jerry Douglas, Michael Falzarano, Rick Gordon, Wycliffe Gordon, Tom Harrell, Jorma Kaukonen, Lee Konitz, Ronnie McDowell, John McEuen, Leon Medica, Andy Narell, Tim O‰'Brien, Anders Osborne, Greg Osby, Mickey Rafael, LeAnn Rimes, Merl Saunders, Jamey Simmons, Chester Thompson, Trout Fishing in America, and Snooky Young.

Chris is currently the Director of Recording Arts at Eastern Kentucky University where he teaches courses in audio production, music technology, and applied drum set. He is also an active composer/arranger in a multitude of genres and his works have been performed by student and faculty ensembles at a variety of universities. His original compositions are published by Drop 6 Media, Simmons Jazz, Engine Room Publishing, and Tapspace. Alfred and Mel Bay are home to some of his scholarly articles and texts.
