Good News by Kyle H. Peters is a thematic 4-mallet marimba piece for the developing performer. The piece begins with an attention grabbing herald via a major second rhythmic figure that appears in various forms throughout the work. Ushering into the good news, Peters introduces a consonant and playful lyrical line, segueing to the good news. A light, dance-like hocket figure created by octave quarter notes in the right hand and a dotted eighth note bass line in the left hand allow the performer to develop musical lines and independence. The piece ends in a light-hearted and uplifting tone surely to leave the listener with a smile on their face.
Good News is playable on a 4.3-octave (low A) marimbas and works well as a short feature piece for concerts, auditions, or technical study.
