Jamieson Carr

Originally from Newport News, Virginia, percussionist and composer Jamieson Carr is very active throughout the United States as an arranger and educator.  He has worked with such groups as the James Madison University Marching Royal Dukes, the JMU Percussion Ensemble, and the JMU Indoor Drumline, as well as composing and arranging for several other high schools around Virginia and the East Coast.  As a performer, Jamieson has entered numerous competitions such as the Atlanta Snare Drum Competition, the North American Brass Band (NABBA) Solo Championships, and the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) Marching Festival.  In those competitions he has received several accolades including first place at the 2008 PASIC Multi-Tenor Competition as well as two first place finishes at the NABBA championships.  Jamieson has appeared as a featured soloist with the JMU Wind Symphony, JMU Brass Band, and JMU Percussion Ensemble.  Two of those featured performances occurred with the JMU Wind Symphony and Brass Band at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. 

Jamieson earned both a Master of Music degree in Percussion Performance and a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Industry from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA.  He has studied with C. William Rice, Dr. Michael Overman, Marlon Foster, and Howard Curtis.  Jamieson is a member of the Percussive Arts Society (PAS) and the American Society of Composer, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP).  His compositions are published through Tapspace Publications, Bachovich Publications, and Doug Wallace Publications.  For more information, please visit jamiesoncarr.com.
