Justin Lamb

Percussionist Justin Lamb is an active performer, educator, composer, and arranger based in Rochester, MI and currently serves as the Lecturer of Applied Percussion at Oakland University. Justin has premiered several works as a solo and chamber musician, most recently leading a consortium to commission composer and multi-instrumentalist Connor Shafran. Connor’s new work What I Know is a unique intersection of contemporary percussion theatre with modern music technology. Justin recently gave the premiere of this work in April 2023. Moreover, committed to contemporary performance and music leadership, Justin previously served as the President of OSSIA New Music, a contemporary ensemble which hosts concerts and events at the Eastman School of Music and the greater Rochester, NY community, while promoting the music of diverse and vibrant composers.

Justin can be heard performing on albums The John Psathas Percussion Project, Vol. 1 and Matthew Burtner: Six Ecoacoustic Quintet, which were made possible through Furman Advantage fellowships and a collaboration with his former teacher and leader of the projects, Dr. Omar Carmenates. Additionally, Justin has performed and premiered several works with various ensembles, including the Eastman Percussion Ensemble, OSSIA New Music, the Oakland Symphony Orchestra, and the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra.

Justin has taught extensively at middle and high schools in South Carolina and New York, including James F. Byrnes High School, League Academy, and the Eastman Community Music School. Additionally, outside of his work as a concert artist, Justin has also performed with the World Champion Carolina Crown Drum & Bugle Corps and continues to remain active in the marching arts as an educator and percussion arranger.

Dr. Justin Lamb holds graduate degrees from the Eastman School of Music­, where he was awarded the prestigious Performer’s Certificate, the Milton Schlesinger Prize, and the Arts Leadership Certificate. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Furman University. His teachers have included Michael Burritt, James Ross, Chip Ross, Rich Thompson, Dr. Omar Carmenates, and Justin Watt. Justin is a proud Tapspace artist and Malletech performing artist.
