Michal Brauhn Damm

Michal Brauhn Damm is a percussion performer, arranger, published composer, and educator from southeast Iowa. She has performed on the International stage, where she played Figure & Form by Molly Joyce at the 2022 Percussive Arts Society International Convention. She has performed and toured across the country with groups such as the University of Iowa and University of Oklahoma Steel Bands, where she played for small communities and school districts to help promote the education of steel pan. Michal Brauhn played drum set for the Iowa Steel Band 2018 album, Jungle Music, which featured world renowned pan artist, Andy Narell. Brauhn has worked with Narell frequently as his staff drummer at the Morgantown Ellie Mannette steel pan festival in 2018 and at the Laborie, St. Lucia Advanced Steel Band Workshop in 2023.

Michal Brauhn Damm received her Bachelor's degree in percussion 
performance from the University of Iowa, where she studied with Dr. Dan Moore. She received her Masters in Percussion Performance at the University of Arizona with Dr. Morris Palter. Michal Brauhn Damm is currently a freelance musician in Norman, OK where she is pursuing her Doctor in Musical Arts at the University of Oklahoma.

Brauhn Damm's professional research focuses on the diversification of 
percussion curriculum through the representation of female composers. She has presented resources for female representation in the music community at multiple universities and institutions.
