Mitchell Beck

Mitchell Beck is a percussionist and composer from Centerville, OH. He received both his bachelor’s (2016) and master’s (2018) degrees in percussion performance from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music.

As a composer, Mitchell has had his works premiered and commissioned by multiple ensembles and individuals around the country. He composes in a variety of contexts including solo and chamber concert music, video game music, electroacoustic and entirely electronic music, and music oriented more toward the popular music scene. Along with composing, Mitchell enjoys arranging a wide variety of music, anywhere from video game music to solo classical guitar music.

As a performer, Mitchell has performed professionally with many orchestras, in solo and chamber ensemble settings, and has gigged and recorded with a variety of bands. Currently, Mitchell lives in Seattle, WA where he is a freelance musician gigging around the area in a variety of performance contexts.

As an active educator, Mitchell has taught at high schools around the country and held the position of assistant percussion director at Carmel High School in Carmel, IN during the 2018-2019 school year. There, he taught private lessons, percussion methods, percussion ensemble, wind ensemble, orchestra, marching band, and winter percussion. Currently, Mitchell is the percussion instructor at Happy Minds School of Music located in Bellevue, WA.



An advanced piece utilizing “found instruments” like bottles, cans, and wood planks in a relatively small setup. It employs complex rhythmic ideas and odd time signatures for contemporary settings.
