Description

Hit It! by Brian Blume is an exciting piece for younger (or simply less experienced) performers that incorporates various interlocking grooves and fun coordination challenges.

Each performer carries multiple responsibilities by playing two instruments/surfaces (with the exception of Percussion 5) and performing sections utilizing stomps and claps. This piece is great for building awareness within the group as players work to fit their rhythms with those around them. Most importantly, Hit It! is intended to provide an opportunity for performers to have fun making music together!

This piece comes as a professionally printed and bound score and includes individual parts in PDF format for printing or for tablet viewing.

Instrumentation

Drums (snare drum, 4 graduated toms (shared by P2 & P3), concert BD)

Hi-hat

Tambourine

Triangle

Reviews

“Hit It!” is an exciting piece for younger (or simply less experienced) performers that incorporates various interlocking grooves and fun coordination challenges. Brian Blume has done a tremendous job creating a piece for that awkward level of “knows how to play and needs something more substantial.” “Hit It” offers players the opportunity to play something that will get them excited about playing percussion.

A lot of pedagogy is packed in this piece, including articulations, dynamics, implement changes, special techniques (e.g., tambourine rolls, triangle muting), and interlocking rhythms. Blume has also done a great job of structuring the piece. Players will be able to rely on familiar patterns while getting into new material throughout the piece.

I highly recommend “Hit It!” for any beginning ensemble. It will engage your students and your audience.
