Seth Adams

Seth Adams was born and raised in Massachusetts, where from a young age he found himself attracted to musical instruments of all shapes and sizes. Seth studied the clarinet and bass clarinet throughout secondary school, and picked up the bass guitar at age 13. It remains Seth’s primary performance instrument. When he was 14, Seth was introduced to a small local drum and bugle corps. He fell fast for the timpani, came to love the entire percussion family, and soon was in a serious drum corps career that included performing as a member of the Glassmen and Magic of Orlando and teaching and arranging music for the front ensembles of the Carolina Crown and Blue Stars.

Seth attended the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he studied percussion under Thom Hannum and Eduardo Leandro and earned dual degrees in percussion performance and music education in 2005. While at UMass, Seth taught and wrote music for the front ensemble of the University of Massachusetts Minuteman Marching Band for three years. In 2012, Seth earned his master of music degree in music education from Boston University.

Seth is a member of the Vic Firth Education Team and the Pi Kappa Lambda music honor society. Seth currently resides in Chicago where he makes his living as a bassist with the band Spoken Four and as an arranger and instructor for the Ravinia Festival’s Reach-Teach-Play initiative.
