Description

Grooves & Chops O'Plenty is an apt description for its composer, Brian Perez. Easily one of the best players to come through the Santa Clara Vanguard (2000–2004), if not DCI, Brian has since gone onto instructing other top lines, including SCV, the Cavaliers, and currently the Cadets. Truly one of the baddest cats around!

This solo contains all kinds of intensity—ridiculously fast singles, blazing flam hybrids, and a whole section of traditional grip playing around the drums. His performance of the piece at the 2004 DCI Individual & Ensemble competition earned him a 3rd place, having missed 2nd place by just a hair margin. If you're looking for a solo that will force you to new technical frontiers, look no further.

This solo also appears in the tenor solo
compilation book Violent Tenor Cream.
