Description

Ancient tales of the Kraken go back as far the 13th century and commonly describe an octopus-like creature that was big enough to crush large ships. Today the legend of the Kraken lives on in sea lore. This action-packed programmatic work by John Willmarth depicts an attack from the mythical sea creature.

Release the Kraken uses all the instruments found in a standard 5-piece drumset divided up among four players. Geared toward begining percussionists, rhythmic content is primarily 8th note based with some basic 16th note patterns peppered throughout. Students will have opportunities to sharpen ensemble skills and develop rhythmic precision due to the variety of textures presented throughout the piece.

Get young students crackin’ with Release the Kraken - a sure-fire hit at your next concert or festival lineup!

Release the Kraken ships in a professionally printed folio which includes all individual parts on CD-ROM.

Instrumentation

  • Drums (snare drum, small tom, medium tom, floor tom, kick drum)
  • Cymbals (hi-hat, China cymbal, ride cymbal)

Note: these standard pieces of a 5-piece drumset are divided up among four players.
